Now that we’ve covered the 6 major chakras

  1. The Root Chakra
  2. The Sacral Chakra
  3. The Solar Plexus Chakra
  4. The Heart Chakra
  5. The Throat Chakra
  6. The Third Eye Chakra

We can explore the final chakra in our series. The point where all chakras come together in a unified way…
Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra

Located at the top of the head, the Crown Chakra ties into the proper functioning of our brain and the entire nervous system. It vibrates to the musical note “B” and the primordial sound of “Om”, that is often chanted by Buddhist and Hindus to awaken this energy center.

The Crown Chakra is represented by the color violet, as well as pure white light, representing the God-force. It is through the Crown Chakra that divine energy can enter into us, trans-mutating energy from our lower chakras into higher spiritual consciousness.

There isn’t a lot to be said about the Crown Chakra other than the fact that its function is solely dependent on the balance of the lower 6 chakras. Attempting to open the Crown Chakra before you’ve successfully integrated and harmonized the energy from the Root Chakra up to the Third Eye, is futile.

Why? Because, the Crown Chakra has a mind of its own so to speak. It doesn’t really open at your will or when you try to consciously direct energy toward it. It’s kind of like you cannot reach enlightenment through force. It happens naturally when its recipient is ready to be joined with a higher power and wisdom, coming from a divine source. This generally takes many years  of disciplined meditation and chakra work.

Now, there is such a thing as an underactive and overactive Crown Charka. Just remember that it is typically caused by blocked or stagnant energy in the lower chakras, nothing that cannot be resolved through chakra cleansing.

An Underactive Crown Chakra often results in a feeling of isolation caused by disconnectedness from God and our higher consciousness. This may lead to feelings of depression and loneliness.

An Overactive Crown Chakra means that we channel an overabundance of energy from the source, which can lead to colorful visions, dreaminess and a temporary disconnect from reality.  In fact, we may be channeling too much energy, which can be easily be resolved by grounding at the root chakra.

A Balanced Crown Chakra is the ultimate goal of all meditators, which is the integration of what the Hindus refer to as Shiva and Shakti or the male and female aspects of our personality (yin and yang).

An opening Crown Chakra can cause a tingling sensation at the top of the head. It raises energy in the body giving you a sense of supreme power and vitality. The effects tend to dissipate eventually, as your other chakras might periodically need some work.  And there’s no better way to open up the Crown Chakra than to cleanse ALL of your chakras on a daily basis.

We’re almost done with the chakra series. This is the before last one on the the Third Eye Chakra, so lets make it a good one.

If you haven’t already read…

I highly recommend that you do. Why? So that you better understand how you function as a whole.

Reading these posts, some of you are going to discover, that one or more of your chakras are out of balance and it may be affecting your emotional, physical and mental health. And if you’re walking around blind to the forces and energies that surround you, thinking you are immune to them, you are sadly mistaken. We are all affected by these forces and unfortunately in our culture, we are not educated about them, let alone taught how to shield ourselves. So, we are inevitably lead down the path of mental and physical degeneration, often before our time.

That being said, lets move onto…

The Third Eye Chakra

Also known as the “brow chakra”, because of it’s location between the two, this chakra is considered to be our psychic center. Opening up the third eye, can give a person the power to project themselves astrally, see into the future or communicate telepathically. This chakra is typically represented by the color indigo and resonates with the musical note A. Besides endowing a person with clairvoyance and “second sight”, the Third Eye Chakra is also the seat of our intellect, rational mind and wisdom. Physically, the Third Eye, affects the functioning of the pituitary gland, the brain, ears, eyes, sinuses etc. Imbalances in this area can cause a variety of health issues such as, brain tumors, stroke, blindness, learning disabilities, deafness etc. Another reason why keeping your chakras balanced and working harmoniously as a whole, can be beneficial…

So, now lets examine what are some of the characteristics of a Third Eye Chakra that is overactive, underactive and balanced.

An Underactive Third Eye Chakra

Do you often enter into a room and forget why you came there? Do you fixate unnecessarily on petty and mundane things? Do you worry too much? Do you occasionally suffer from “brain fog”? If you answered yes to any of these, you may have an underactive Third Eye Chakra. Because this chakra also affects our intellect, when it’s underactive, it can lead to learning disabilities, difficulty concentrating and remembering information.

An Overactive Third Eye Chakra

Do you often feel spaced out or lost in your own imaginary world? Do you find yourself overly sensitive to people or your surroundings? Do you dream in technicolor almost every night? If so, you could have an overactive Third Eye Chakra. Let me address something important about people with too much activity going on in their Third Eye. They can sometimes come across as uncaring and inattentive, simply because they are too busy processing all the stimuli that comes to them from all 5 or 6 senses. And these tend to be overly developed.

A Balanced Third Eye Chakra

Do you find you have an active creative imagination and great visualization skills? Do you sometimes have visions or prophetic dreams? Do you often know what others are thinking without them telling you?  If so, you are blessed. For one thing, having a balanced Third Eye Chakra, gives you kind of an aura of protection, in the sense that you are probably really really good at reading people. I mean so good, that you are almost immediately aware of people’s intentions, even before they say hello. Now, this can be advantageous if you’re in the healing profession. Having a balanced Third Eye Chakra gives us much clearer insights and sharpens our perceptions when dealing with others.

Part 5: The Throat Chakra

This is part 5 to a 7 part series on the chakras. For more info on the chakras, please refer to

The Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is commonly associated with the color blue and it vibrates to the musical note G. Our communication skills and speech are primarily influenced by this chakra. It is also associated with clairaudience, music and intellect.

Your ability to express yourself in an honest and sincere manner is a function of the Throat Chakra. Located in the center of the neck and throat region, this chakra governs our thyroid, esophagus and mouth. Sore throats, TMJ, and gum or tooth problems are some of the common physical issues we encounter when the Throat Chakra is out of balance. Many of those imbalances stem from our thoughts and emotions, as well as early parental influence.

Have you ever heard the expression, “children should be seen, not heard”? Well, depending on whether or not self-expression was denied or encouraged in your early years can make the difference between a balanced, underactive or overactive Throat Chakra.

An Underactive Throat Chakra:

Blocked or stagnant energy in the Throat Chakra is often the result of being denied self-expression in childhood. The effect of this may continue into adulthood causing an individual to struggle with honestly express their needs and wants. They may appear introverted and shy, preferring to listen to others, than to add their own input. Knowing what’s on their tight-lipped minds may require a certain degree of empathy and patience. They open up at their own pace. Pressuring them to tell you what they are thinking, will often urge them to clam up. Instead, they need to feel that you are truly receptive and that they won’t be judged for what they say or how they say it.

An Overactive Throat Chakra

At first, they may appear to be the life of the party, full of colorful stories to recount. As your attention starts to dwindle, you begin pondering, what is it about this person’s need to fill you in on every minute fleeting thought that enters their mind? The truth is, when a person’s Throat Chakra is overactive, they may tend to dominate conversations and sometimes have a hard time pausing to consider what other’s have to say. They tend to criticize and judge others unabashedly. They can be controlling and manipulative with their words, using them recklessly to impose their stubborn beliefs on others.

A Balanced Throat Chakra

With a balanced Throat Chakra a person will express themselves clearly and fluidly through speech, writing &/or music. Easily transitioning between talking and listening, gives them an advantage in building rapport with others. On a deeper level, the throat opens up telepathic communication that allow us to send and receive thoughts to and from people who vibrate at the same frequency, as we do. But even more importantly, a balanced Throat Chakra opens up lines of communication with our higher consciousness, giving us insight into the intentions of others, while helping us fulfill our true life purpose.

Part 4: The Heart Chakra

Introducing part 4 of a 7 series on the chakras. For your reference, check out:

And now, moving on to…

The Heart Chakra

Located at the center of our chest, the Heart Chakra governs our ability to give and receive love. It is from where we radiate our feelings of compassion, selflessness and empathy. Sometimes we feel we lack “self-love”, which is generally caused by an imbalance in the heart center. There are a number of reasons for this.  For example, children raised in emotionally distant and unloving homes, sometimes develop into cold and unaffectionate adults. Having been denied the essential love and compassion from their caregivers, they may perpetuate the cycle with their own children. On the other hand, you may have been blessed with a loving family, but that hardly shielded you from heartbreak or heartache. Unfortunately, this happens so frequently in our culture, because we haven’t been taught to heal and retrieve our heart cords, after a break up. And that means, we often remain chained to toxic relationships, long after they have ended.

Since the Heart Chakra rules the heart, lungs and circulatory system, many health issues can arise in these areas. According to Dr. Mimi Guarneri, Cardiologist and author of “The Heart Speaks”, people who walk around with unresolved heartbreak are at greater risk for heart disease, heart attacks and stroke. While it is still popular belief that heart disease is caused primarily by an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise, Dr. Guarneri’s studies demonstrate that there’s more than meets the eye. When taking a closer look at the personal lives of her patients, particularly those who appeared physically “fit”, she discovered that the majority had suffered from a severe emotional trauma and loss, such as the death of a child or lover, the end of a relationship, abuse etc.

What you need to keep in mind is that “issues get trapped in the tissues”, so to maintain a healthy heart, it’s important to let go of the negative thoughts, emotions and relationships that no longer serve your greater good.  There are many healing systems that can help you achieve this, such as hypnotherapy, chakra cleansing, Hawaiian Huna, Qigong, Reiki etc.

In the meantime, lets look at some of the differences between an underactive, overactive and balanced Heart Chakra…

An Underactive Heart Chakra

With an under active Heart Chakra, a person may feel unworthy of love and fear rejection from others. This may cause them to be overly needy and clingy to others in an attempt to fill their inner emptiness. When they are alone, they are lonely. And their loneliness and desperation, hardly finds relief in a crowd of people. In fact, being surrounded by others may deepen their sense of isolation. Relationships are compromised, as the void in their heart grows. They may waver between building walls around their heart and keeping others at arm’s distance, or seeking approval and depending too much on other people.

An Overactive Heart Chakra

An excess of energy in the heart region can cause a person to be excessively emotional and melodramatic. With an over active Heart Chakra, love is sometimes misused as a weapon. You might hear someone say “You don’t love me” or “If you loved me, you wouldn’t do that” as a way to manipulate people’s hearts. Generally, manipulation is a “control issue” and has less connection with the heart, as it does with the Solar Plexus Chakra. Then there are the “bleeding heart” types, who connect so strongly to the suffering of others that they end up drained over time.

A Balanced Heart Chakra

Compassion, empathy and openness to love are an expression of a balanced Heart Chakra.  Here you have people who enjoy the company of others and feel a deep sense of connection to all things around them, including plants and animals. They do not depend on others for their happiness, because they understand their inner joy, comes from being in harmony within themselves. Heart energy is a very powerful and healing source that can radiate to others. It is also a protective force that can be stimulated and used as a powerful auric shielding tool.

In tantric practices, heart energy is regularly cultivated through techniques, such as the White Tiger Tantra Heart Meditation. When sexual energy is drawn up to the heart, it can increase our feelings of self-love and deepen our connection with those around us.

Introducing part 3 in our 7 series on the chakras. As we move onto the Solar Plexus Chakra, be sure to first read about the Root Chakra, followed by the Sacral Chakra to better understand how our energy systems function as a whole.

The Solar Plexus Chakra

Solar Plexus Chakra
If one word could describe the Solar Plexus Chakra, it would be:

Control.

Ultimately, that is what this chakra is about. In fact, it is the seat of all self-control, ego and personal power. Associated with the color yellow and the musical note “E”, the Solar Plexus Chakra governs our digestive system, the pancreas and the liver. It is also the largest of the chakras, spreading 6 inches in diameter over the entire abdomen and one that people are most physically aware of. Many will often complain of an unexplainable tenseness or tugging between their sternum and navel, tightening and loosening, as though by a will of its own. In reality, energetic imbalances and blockages in the Solar Plexus are generally caused by the need to “control” and “resist” certain emotions, such as anger and frustration. And because we aren’t taught the tools on how to release trapped emotions, without causing harm unto ourselves or others, we begin bottling them up, until they can no longer be contained. So with nowhere to go, this blocked energy begins to transmutate into dis-eases and disorders of the body and mind.

An Overactive Solar Plexus Chakra

With an overabundance of Solar Plexus energy, a person may appear very demanding, judgmental and critical. By “appear”, I mean this isn’t necessarily their intrinsic makeup, but rather their behaviors are a manifestation of an imbalance in their energy centers. Sometimes, a simple chakra cleansing can resolve some of the controlling behaviors that people with an overactive Solar Plexus exhibit. Most of the time, it takes challenging limiting beliefs and behaviors, to break down the unhealthy ego. Then, there is  also the issue of interpersonal relationships. You may have a demanding and stubborn boss who won’t take “no” for an answer or a hostile and controlling partner whose perfectionist ways drive you up the wall.  All-in-all, these are just some of the symptoms of an overactive Solar Plexus Chakra.

An Underactive Solar Plexus Chakra

When underactive, the Solar Plexus Chakra expresses itself very differently. A person may experience unexplainable bouts of depression, lack confidence, energy, vitality and feel overly concerned about what other people think. Often, they are very sensitive individuals who will often pick up on other people’s emotional baggage, which is sometimes confused as their own. They carry the burden of others almost willingly, reinforcing their inner “victim” and “martyr”.  They have a hard time establishing clear boundaries in their relationships and oftentimes will allow others to trample over them. They may easily feel drained after social encounters, which may incite feelings of isolation, aloofness &/or apathy.

A Balanced Solar Plexus Chakra

A balanced Solar Plexus Chakra creates a person who has got a cheerful, confident, energetic and outgoing personality. They are emotionally expressive and assertive when need be. They set clear boundaries in their relationships and are mindful not to overstep those of other people. The Solar Plexus Chakra is actually the center of our personal power, so when it is in balance we’re able to withstand high stress situations with a sort of involved detachment. In other words, we are emotionally and mentally present, but not attached or trying to control the outcome of events. We allow them to unfold naturally, trusting ourselves in the decisions that we make.

When energy or chi doesn’t pass easily through the Solar Plexus, it can affect the energetic system as a whole, leading to an accumulation in the lower or higher energy centers.  For some people, when there is an excess of energy in the lower chakras, such as the Root and Sacral Chakra, they may become overly involved in mundane activities and selfish pursuits for power and pleasure. A highly cerebral or flighty personality can be caused by an overabundance of energy in the higher chakras such as the throat, third eye and crown chakra.

Sometimes a person will inadvertently try to prevent energy from descending into the lower chakras, denying themselves “worldly” pursuits, in search for the divine. Religious sects often preach the denial of the pleasures of the flesh, claiming they are unholy and impure. Tantra on the other hand, does not discriminate between the earthly and divine energies. On the contrary, it teaches us that enlightenment comes with the harmonious union between the two. And since the Solar Plexus is the gateway between earth and spirit, it is by clearing this chakra that this union can be achieved.

Part 2: The Sacral Chakra

Introducing part 2 of a 7 part series on the chakras. Now that you’ve got a better understanding of the function and effects of the Root Chakra when underactive, overactive or balanced, lets move onto the Sacral Chakra…

The Sacral Chakra

Sacral ChakraThe Sacral Chakra contains the energy of attraction, creativity and it is the reservoir of our sexual energy. Our wealth, the harmony of our relationships, creative expression, emotional and sexual health depend on the proper functioning of this chakra. Laying just below and slightly to the left of the navel, the Sacral Chakra is bright orange in color and vibrates to the musical note “D”.

Also known as the Sex, Spleen and Navel chakra, this energy center governs our reproductive, urinary and lower digestive system. You might have heard of the mind-body connection, but lets not forget that our thoughts and emotions also affect our chakras, by inhibiting or stimulating the energy that flows through them.  So it’s no surprise that long-term imbalances in the Sacral Chakra can lead to dis-ease in the mind and body (e.g  ovarian and prostate cancers; bladder and kidney infections; sexual dysfunctions etc.) How an illness expresses itself will often depend on whether the chakra is overactive or underactive.

An Overactive Sacral Chakra

If you have an overactive Sacral Chakra, you might notice a very distinct heat in your lower abdomen, even though this chakra is associated with the water element. You might also suffer from unexplainable mood swings and have a highly sexual personality. Anxiety, promiscuity and manic behaviors are also common. Some people become overwhelmed with sexual tension and desire, which propels them to selfishly satisfy and indulge their senses, through excessive sex or masturbation, overeating, drugs and alcohol.  If the excess sacral energy isn’t provided with a creative outlet or channeled up into the higher chakras such as the heart, it can leave its victim insatiable and in a wanton state of longing.

An Underactive Sacral Chakra

Typically, if you have an underactive Sacral Chakra, you frequently complain of fatigue, lack of inspiration and a weakened or absent libido. You feel sluggish at times and show a disinterest in sex and creative pursuits such as art, music, writing etc. Some people experience an emotional coldness or rigidity. Women will often complain of sexual frigidity and inability to have orgasms. In fact, studies have shown that you can infer a woman’s ability to have orgasms by simply observing the pelvic fluidity in her walk. At the root of these sexual inhibitions and dysfunctions, affecting both men and women, you will often find that many people carry with them the burden of sexual guilt and shame. Much of that comes from living in a society which publicizes sex and simultaneously demonizes it.

A Balanced Sacral Chakra

When your Sacral Chakra is in balance, you allow your feelings to flow freely through you without the need for dramatic displays of emotions. In whatever situation you find yourself, you express a high emotional intelligence, trusting yourself in the decisions that you make. Creative inspiration is found in abundance and you are open to exploring new thoughts and ideas. With a clean and open Sacral Chakra you might develop a deeper sense of awareness of your own subtle energies and those of other people. And with this subtle awareness, new levels of intimacy, passion and pleasure open up, that only come in surrendering to the moment, with total sensual abandon.

Sex and the Sacral Chakra

For the majority of people, sex is centered in their Sacral Chakra. In other words, they experience what are known as “genital orgasms”, which are similar to letting out a good sneeze. They only last a couple of seconds and are used strictly to relieve sexual tension. Unfortunately sexual energy is lost with these types of orgasms and are common among people who masturbate excessively. As the energy dissipates through the Sacral Chakra, the need for sex becomes greater, so energy is drawn down more and more from the higher chakras. It’s part of why a lot of people feel very tired and lethargic after sex.

In tantric practices one sexual experience and a person will feel energized and ecstatic for days. Practicing a simple exercise such as the White Tiger Tantra Heart Meditation, can quickly teach you how to cultivate  sexual energy and cycle it through your body, leading to full body orgasms. That way, sex, rather than being a means to indulge oneself, becomes a source of healing and nourishment for the mind, body and spirit.

Part 1: The Root Chakra

Root ChakraThis is the first part to a seven part series describing the different chakras, their functions and their relationship to tantra. This article will give you the insight you need to better understand how the energy centers in our bodies, that we call chakras affect us emotionally and physically.

The Root Chakra

Ever had one of those days where you found yourself just stumbling about, dropping things, bumping into people and just feeling ungrounded? Your Root Chakra may have been out of balance. The Root Chakra is located off the tailbone or at the perineum (the area between the genitals and anus). It shoots out in two directions, in the shape of a Y, through the ground and out in front of you. It is red in color and vibrates to the music note “C”. Color and sound affect us energetically and emotionally more than we may understand. Just think of how you feel when you are woken up by the shrill sound of heavy machinery right under your window, or how much easier it is to read a book while listening to classical music, as opposed to heavy metal.

In layman’s terms, the Root Chakra and it’s functions bear a strong resemblance to some of Freud’s theories of Psychosexual Development. Maybe you’ve heard of the “anal stage” and how a child’s success at this stage is dependent upon positive parental reinforcement of toilet training. It was believed that parents who used rewards were more likely to raise a child who felt capable, confident and secure, as opposed to fearful, mistrusting and insecure. And so goes the function of the Root Chakra which is the center point of our feelings of survival. It is what makes us feel grounded and secure in who we are as individuals.

If you find you may have an imbalance in your Root Chakra, no need to worry. You won’t have to spend the next 10 years on the psychoanalyst’s couch recounting tales of woe, hoping to graduate from the anal to the genital stage in your development. A simple chakra cleansing exercise can quickly and effectively resolve many of the issues that you may experience when your Root Chakra is either overactive or underactive.

An Overactive Root Chakra

With an overactive Root Chakra we can sometimes come off as excessively greedy and concerned with material things. We may be domineering, impulsive and sexually manipulative. Because this chakra is tied into security and survival, when overactive, we may have a reckless thrill-seeking attitude about us. Digestive issues and poor circulation are common complaints among people with both overactive and underactive Root Chakras.

An Underactive Root Chakra

When underactive, the Root Chakra plays out in a different way. People who aren’t grounded often don’t have enough energy passing through this chakra because most of the energy stays trapped in the higher energy centers, such as in the solar plexus which is the seat of “control issues”. An underactive Root chakra may cause a feeling of disconnection from our bodies, thus the stumbling about and feeling ungrounded. We may feel fearful, restless and anxious, which can cycle down into a depression. People with underactive Root Chakras are often times labeled as being very stiff, rigid and uptight.

A Balanced Root Chakra

When your Root Chakra is balanced, you feel centered and grounded in who you are. You live in the present moment effortlessly and you feel a strong connection to yourself and in your relationships with other people. You know who you are and what you want out of life. Regardless of the issues you may face in your personal or professional life, you continue to have an unwavering confidence that things will just work out in the end. You have a sense of abundance about your life, a firm resolve and a strong will to live.

On A Final Note…

The Root Chakra is of particular importance in tantric practices. It is the seat of kundalini energy, which for some people begins to rise slowly after years of study and spiritual work. For other people, particularly tantra practitioners, kundalini can rise spontaneously, raising one’s vibration and capacity to heal others exponentially. Such has been my experience with White Tiger Tantra in that it’s uniquely designed pressure point system has the capacity to rapidly heal chakra imbalances, raising energy from the lower chakras up into the heart and crown.

If you’ve just purchased the White Tiger Tantra DVD’s and you’d like to try out a first session with your partner, here are some of the things you might want to keep in mind to make your White Tiger Tantra experience truly unforgettable…

People often ask me how to first introduce White Tiger Tantra to their girfriend or wife. Personally, I’ve always preferred the honest and straightforward approach, because keeping information from her will likely instill some doubts and worries in her mind. So, I say, put it all out on the table and share in this wonderful learning process together. Even if the woman is receiving the massage, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t a shared experience. The first time my partner presented me with White Tiger Tantra, we watched the DVD’s together, which definitely peaked my curiosity and excitement. Never before had I imagined that female ejaculation and full body orgasms were something that a woman could actually learn. I honestly believed that my amateur 3-second clitoral orgasms with the assistance of a vibrator, were the fullest extent of my ability to feel sexual and sensual pleasure. Little did I know that with a bit of consistent practice, I would soon find myself having toe-curling, multiple and extended full body orgasms that lasted anywhere from several minutes, to over an hour.

The second thing I really recommend is that you purchase a massage table. Your best bet is to get one at a big retail store, like Costco, where massage tables are sold at a bargain, rather than purchasing one at a massage store where they are generally overpriced. You may be wondering why massage tables are necessary for White Tiger Tantra. After all, you’ve got a bed and a couple of towels right? Well, that’s okay. But the both of you are likely miss out on the full experience, for a number of reasons. First, if you’re the person administering the massage, the great thing about having a massage table is that it will make your job so much easier. You will be standing at a perfect angle which will ease any strain on your back and give you more arm strength to apply the sensual enhancement massage techniques, which can sometimes be strenuous. If you’re on the receiving end, the massage table will give you better body support and position you in such a way that your partner will help release the spasms in your body more rapidly and effectively. And that means, powerful full body orgasms will start happening at a much greater rate and speed.

The third and the final thing about making your White Tiger Tantra experience truly memorable, is prior to beginning the session, take the time to connect with your partner. You want her to be warmed up to you emotionally and spiritually, because her ability to trust you will help her relax and release more readily, making the whole experience much more pleasurable for the both of you. Also, build up her anticipation for the session, so that it becomes something that she’s really looking forward to, like a child on Christmas morning. Tease her and tantalize her. Use blindfolds and gently sweep her body with feathers or silk scarves to help awaken and stimulate her senses.  If you’re the one who will be receiving the White Tiger Tantra massage, take the time to relax your mind and body. Practicing rhythmic breathing, before, during and after the session will increase oxygen and blood flow, helping multiply all those exquisite sensations. Finally, build up your sexual energy with the White Tiger Tantra Heart Meditation over the course of a few days, prior to your session. And a gentle reminder; vibrators weaken full body orgasms, so please set them aside if you can. Follow these tips and you will be well on your way to experiencing states of sexual ecstasy and bliss, beyond your wildest imagination!

Sex For Stress-Relief

If you want to live a stress-free life make sure to include plenty of exercise, rest, healthy eating habits and don’t forget the sex. Numerous studies on sexuality confirm that there are many physiological and psychological benefits to having a healthy sex life, particularly when it comes to managing stress.

There are many health benefits to sex, especially when practiced in loving and intimate relationships. Besides being a great stress reliever, sex has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels, increase blood circulation, strengthen the heart and lower blood pressure. If paired with deep breathing such as tantric breath, sex can boost overall energy, uplift the mood and treat anxiety. Many people take short sips of air or forget to breathe altogether as they are about to orgasm. What happens is that their bodies don’t get enough oxygen, which is why sexual energy that is released during orgasm often remains trapped in the lower chakras, rather than rising to nourish the heart and mind. From a physiological perspective, deep breathing before, during and after sex increases the production of endorphins such as oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine. When combined these hormones are what are known as the “cocktail of love”.

Orgasm was regularly prescribed to women of the Victorian era, up until 1952, to treat a condition called hysteria.  Nervousness, faintness, irritability and insomnia were the main symptoms, caused by the “stress of modern-day life”. One physician wrote that hysteria was an illness that was caused by sexual repression and deprivation, particularly among virgins, widows and nuns. Women sought relief in monthly visits to the physicians office for a pelvic massage, who would manually stimulate their genitals with a device that caused “hysterical paroxysms”, otherwise known as orgasms. Nowadays, we are more educated about sex, however this has not changed the fact that still so many women suffer from some form of sexual disorder or another, from anorgasmia and even sexual arousal disorder!

While sex can be great for relieving stress, stress can also dampen the desire for sex. High levels of distress and fatigue can easily kill the mood so it’s important to keep stress levels in check. Practicing some form of meditation, exercise and rest can make a world of a difference when it comes to reawakening the passion and excitement. For increasing sexual desire and arousal, try the White Tiger Tantra Heart Meditation, as well as Rhythmic Breathing to cultivate more calm energy. Also, deep tissue massage or the White Tiger Tantra sensual enhancement massage not only help relieve stress by releasing emotional issues and tensions, they stimulate the production of the right kind of hormones that get us “in the mood”.

In pursuit of living a more balanced and stress free-life, the formula generally includes meditation, exercise and diet, with sex remaining relatively obscure in the background. For the most part, I’m sure it’s no surprise to most people that sex relieves stress on many levels, both psychologically and physically. In tantric practices, sexual energy is cultivated, rather than released through orgasm. This energy acts as a powerful healing force that can relieve stress, help raise vitality, intelligence and lead to enlightenment. Osho says, “One tantric sex experience, and even for days you will feel relaxed at ease, at home, non-violent, non-angry, non-depressed. And this type of person is never a danger to others. If he can, he will help others to be happy. If he cannot, at least he will not make anyone unhappy”

There’s a secret to experiencing deeper intimate connections and mind-blowing full body orgasms. It starts in your brain with a hormone called oxytocin, also known as the “love hormone”. Produced by the pituitary gland, oxytocin is known to stimulate our desire for sex and bonding.

Oxytocin, not only promotes pleasant feelings during and after orgasm, it may also lead to caring and the desire for mutual comfort. Oxytocin is also referred to as the “cuddling chemical”, because it can make both men and women more relaxed and empathetic to the feelings of others. It amplifies our desire for closeness, intimacy and can make us more sexually receptive. It can help regulate sleep patterns by calming the body and mind. A lot of research out there talks about how people who are happily married or in relationships, have a longer lifespan. One of the theories is that being intimate, stimulates the production of oxytocin which alleviates the effects of stress produced by the hormone cortisol. And we all know how detrimental stress can be to our health both physically and mentally.

With that in mind, you may be wondering what you can do to boost levels of oxytocin in your body. Before I get into that, let me start by first explaining what is the effect of oxytocin on sexual desire and orgasm. The first phase of oxytocin’s effect is its power to arouse us sexually. At which point, oxytocin levels reach their peak during orgasm. The problem lies however in the fact that oxytocin breaks down very rapidly in the body after orgasm, which is why the “after sex glow” and the good feelings dissipate rather quickly, especially during casual sex encounters. We may experience a strong desire for sex with someone with “no strings attached”, but it often precipitates an even stronger desire to go home. When there is a deep intimate connection, oxytocin is produced in greater abundance, which might explain why love is really such a powerful aphrodisiac. Studies have shown that there is a direct relationship between the levels of oxytocin in a woman’s body and her ability to experience orgasms. An overload of oxytocin is believed to lead to multiple and full body orgasms.

So how do you get the oxytocin flowing? As I mentioned earlier, oxytocin quickly breaks down after orgasm, so a secret to amplifying levels of oxytocin is…you guessed it! Don’t orgasm. Don’t worry, I don’t mean never have orgasms. I just mean, learn to enjoy building your sexual energy up to its peak and cycle it through the body, as described in the White Tiger Tantra Heart meditation. Osho says, “when you have come back from a tantric sex act, you have risen, not fallen.” So when we become sexually aroused and move over our peak of excitement, there is a noticeable drop in energy that may make us want to roll over and sleep. When sexual energy is cultivated (without orgasm), as many tantric practices encourage, oxytocin levels continue to rise, filling us with all the wonderful sensations that true love (of self) can ignite. Once released through orgasm, you feel energized and the “after glow” can last for days and even weeks! By raising sexual energy and thus oxytocin, you can experience heightened states of pleasure that lead to full body orgasms, without necessarily depending on someone else to take you there. Oxytocin is under your control!

Touch is really the key to producing more oxytocin in the body. When paired with estrogen, oxytocin can sexually arouse both men and women. In women, the breast area is a particularly sensitive to touch and releases a lot of oxytocin, which is also the same hormone that creates the strong bond between mother and baby. There are certain ways that are more effective than others in massaging the breasts to promote an oxytocin-stimulating effect. Check out Steve P’s demonstration of the breast massage in his White Tiger Tantra DVDs. This massage can be self-administered, as well as practiced with a partner. Other areas that are oxytocin-sensitive are the lips, earlobes and genitals. In general, any kind of touch helps. According to Dr. Ray Sahelian oxytocin levels have been shown to rise during massage. Women need more oxytocin than men if they are to experience full body orgasms, and thus require more touch, more intimacy, more love. This might explain why Steve P says, ” As a general rule men will ‘fake’ the intimacy for the sex, whereas women will have sex to feel the intimacy.”
